What’s the definition of irony?

16 Jul

From a POLITICO story about a Palin aide responding to an anonymous comment a Romney aide made disparaging Palin in a Time piece.  Got that?

“’For Washington consultants to sit around and personally disparage the Governor anonymously to reporters is unfortunate and counterproductive and frankly immature,’ the aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, continued.”

By the way, here’s the Dictionary.com definition of irony: “The use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning.”

UPDATE: Ben Smith picks up the same quote.
